Blooming collection of hyacinths

A collection of hyacinths is blooming in the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus!

Hyacinths are incredibly beautiful flowers that attract attention with their rich colors and delicate aroma. They belong to the hyacinth family and grow in many regions of Europe and Asia.

Hyacinths have many different colors - from white to dark purple - and can be monochromatic or combine several shades. Flowers can be either single or collected in inflorescences, which are soft, lush brushes. Today, there are about 100 known varieties, differing in both color and flower shape.

Interesting facts...

  • Hyacinths are also called "rain flowers".
  • Hyacinth appeared in Europe thanks to a shipwreck. A box of bulbs was washed ashore by the waves, where they sprouted.
  • Hyacinth was the favorite flower of Peter I, who was a fan of everything connected with Holland.
  • Flower oil is used to create scented candles.
  • A bouquet of hyacinths foretells victories and is a symbol of rebirth.
